EU Regulation 2023/1542 on batteries requires technical documentation starting this month

This regulation entered into force on 17 August 2023 as the EU Battery Regulation 2023/1542.

From August 18, 2024, minimum durability and electrochemical performance requirements will apply to low-volatge batteries as a requirement for placing them on the market including, an obligation to provide information about them. The information should be provided with an IT tool and, depending on the battery type, be visible in a battery database or battery passport.

In addition, technical documentation on durability and electrochemical performance must be enclosed in accordance with Annex IV Part A of the document "Annexes to the proposal for a regulation" (Annex IV, Part A). These documents contain information on technical specifications, standards and conditions used to measure, calculate or estimate of the electrochemical performance and durability parameters (Annex IV, Part B) (Article 10(1)).
